Botox® (Botulinum Toxin) is a medication that has been used successfully for a number of years to treat conditions that result from lack of muscle control; however, Botox® is most commonly known as a wrinkle treatment.

When used to reduce facial wrinkles, Botox® works in the same way as when used to treat medical conditions–paralyzing certain groups of muscles, so they do not overreact to stimuli. This treatment results in frown lines that are less noticeable than before.

Botox® Procedure:

A sedative or local anesthetic is not used because the pain associated with the procedure is minimal. A small amount of discomfort is felt when the needle is inserted and the Botox® is injected. This sensation lasts approximately 5 seconds. Botox® is injected into various locations on the face. The needle is extremely small and only a tiny amount of medication is injected at one time.

Botox® is one of the most commonly used injectable for reducing forehead wrinkles. While Botox® injections are sometimes offered at day spas and beauty shops, only a licensed physician is lawfully allowed to administer this injection. Having a Botox® treatment at an alternate location poses serious health risks and may not produce the results desired.

Botox® Open Eye Treatment

Since the upper eyelids and eyebrows are closely related, relaxing the eyebrow muscles with Botox® can lift both structures, creating a more “open” eye or “round” eye. The difference becomes especially noticeable with advancing age; like the rest of the face, the eyes and eyebrows lose volume over time and begin to sag. Injecting Botox® carefully above the eyebrows disables the brow depressor muscles that cause the droopy effect. This allows the muscles to stay erect, thus opening up the eye area and creating a more alert, youthful appearance

Botox® Post-Treatment:

Because no sedatives or anesthetics are used, patients can return to normal activities immediately after the procedure. The physician may recommend that the patient not lie down for three to four hours following treatment. It is possible to experience a mild headache. If this should occur the physician may recommend Acetaminophens. Some facial exercises may be recommended. The treatment takes 3 to 8 days to take effect. The benefits will last 3 months. A touch up may be necessary 1-2 weeks after the initial treatment. It usually takes 3 or 4 injections each year to maintain the smooth youthful appearance.

Those who are pregnant should forgot this treatment until after they deliver. People who suffer from flu-like symptoms after having a Botox® injection should immediately consult a medical professional.

Botox® does not produce permanent results. Botox® will not completely diminish deep wrinkles, so those with severe frown lines may not be able to benefit from one of these injections.

Possible Side Effects

There are no serious side effects associated with this treatment. There may be a small amount of bruising around the treated areas; however, this is temporary. On rare occasions, the needle may puncture a blood vessel, which can result in a black and blue bruise around the treated area, which disappears in a few days. Other side effects that rarely occur is a slight drooping of the eyebrow or upper eyelid, usually correcting itself in 2 to 3 weeks.

The Best Candidates For The Procedure

The best candidates for the procedure are those between the ages of 30 and 65. In many cases, wrinkles in people over 65 are not caused by muscle pull but rather sun damage; however, each person is different and must be evaluated by the physician.

What Results Can Be Expected?
This procedure will smooth wrinkles that are caused by frown and worry lines, “crow’s feet” and laugh lines; however, it is not designed to take the place of the standard face-lift or other facial surgical procedures. It is often used in conjunction with other procedures.

Dermal Fillers

Dermal fillers are smooth injectable gels made from naturally occurring hyaluronic acid. Dermal fillers add volume to weakened facial features and can stimulate collagen growth.

Each dermal filler is unique in its own way but similar in two. First, they plump skin and gently lift it to restore collagen loss due to the normal aging process. Secondly, dermal fillers motivate the body to create its own natural collagen and restore your face to a more natural, youthful appearance.

Performed by a professional, dermal fillers are one of the most widely used treatments when it comes to restoring smoothness and facial volume. When injected, they fill in space and absorb water to create a smoother, fuller appearance in the face or to enhance the contours of the face. Dermal fillers are most commonly used to fill nasolabial folds, marionette lines, the jawline, cheeks, lips, and the under-eye area.

Restylane L:

Restylane-L is an injectable dermal filler that includes lidocaine, a local anesthetic that improves patient comfort during treatment. The active ingredient is hyaluronic acid, a chemical that is found naturally in the body. Hyaluronic acid holds onto moisture, aids in tissue repair, and provides added cushioning within the body, particularly in the joints. For facial anti-aging, it also helps structural elements in the skin like elastin and collagen stay together.

What is Restylane Silk?

The lips and the lines around the mouth, like other areas of the face, show signs of aging as you get older. This often results in lip thinning, lost shape and an increase in vertical lines above the lip. Restylane Silk is designed specially to provide natural-looking results in these particular areas by using smaller, smoother hyaluronic acid particles than those used in other Restylane products
