Liposuction and Liposculpture overview
The most common areas treated are the hips, thighs, and abdomen. Other areas that are also treated include the arms, knees, ankles, and fat around the neck and lower face. This procedure can be performed safely in our office surgery facility. However, larger procedures may need to be done in the hospital.
Liposuction is best for patients who are close to their ideal body weight and wish to have certain areas of the body sculpted for a more contoured look. Other patients who are good candidates for liposuction are those who are also undergoing tummy tuck or other procedure. Liposuction is a valuable part of these procedures as well. Liposuction is performed by first injecting the fat with a special solution, which aids in its removal. The solution also has medication to help reduce pain and swelling after the procedure. A special garment is worn for several weeks after surgery to help support the new shape.
I urge my patients to begin a diet and exercise program for the best possible results. For those already in a fitness program, I allow a gradual return to activity over a period of 3 to 4 weeks.
